When I first looked at this stone, I saw a wide open landscape and immediately thought of how the great plains must have looked prior to the 1800’s. In my research I discovered that there were more than 50,000,000 bison in the United States in the early 1800”s, compared to todays 500,000 plus a mere 5,000 in Yellowstone National Park. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of this necklace will be donated to Buffalo Field Campaign, an organization that works to protect wild bison. A beautiful polychrome jasper is set in fine silver with a layered border and accented with a sterling silver cast succulent and two silver raindrops. I’ve given the stone a matte finish which gives the landscape a dry deserty feel, a texture perfectly suited for this little but majestic bison. The silver is lightly oxidized for some shadow and depth and finished with a satin sheen.
